What's Your Why?

This week, I had the joy of catching up with a wonderful couple who have been steadfast supporters and allies of Peace Within the Battle. Their kindness and enthusiasm were absolutely contagious—I wished I could bottle it up!

When I asked about their journey with the ministry, Liz smiled and said, “We read About Face: Finding Peace Within the Battle and loved it!”

Tom, ever humble, admitted with a laugh, “I’m a hands-on guy—not much of a reader. If I read something, it doesn’t stick. But if I hear it, I’ll remember it.” He went on to share how deeply he was moved by the story of the three Irish military veterans—John, Ger, and Kevin. Their resilience in the face of life’s challenges, and how God’s love carried them through to peace and freedom, resonated powerfully with him.

When I asked what motivated them to help bring an audiobook version to life, Liz explained:“We felt this story would touch people like us in audio format—it would reach further. People who don’t love reading, or who are too busy but could listen in the car or at work. We knew they would be blessed by this story.”

Tom added simply, “We just wanted to help others hear what God can do in the middle of life’s challenges.”

Their words filled me with gratitude. For seven years, Tom and Liz faithfully encouraged our team to pursue this dream. They held the vision and believed in the possibility long before we could see it ourselves.

When I thanked them, I knew my words could never fully capture the depth of my appreciation. Still, I tried.

And Tom—true to form—responded with humility:“It was a team effort. We’re just glad to be part of the group that made this happen.”
